Tibareni — non-Indo-European Caucasian tribes along the Kura River and the Black Sea coast. Belonged to the 19th satrapy of Darius I. Were known for their cheerful disposition. Later submitted to Mithridates VI.
Tibareni occupied the country between the Chalybes and the Mosynoeci, on the east of the river Iris.

Tibareni — non-Indo-European Caucasian tribes along the Kuros River (modern Kura), on the coast of the Pontus Euxinus (modern Black Sea) west of the Mossynoeci, east and north of the Chalybes with the city of Cotyora (modern Ordu). It is believed that after the fall of the Hittite Empire, some of the Tibareni migrated to the mountainous region of Eastern Cappadocia and to Thrace, where they came to be called Triballi.

According to Herodotus, a people living in the 8th century BC along the coast of Pontus, distinguished by the most cheerful disposition. The basis of their economic activity was cattle breeding and fishing. On their territory was the Greek city of Cotyora. In the 5th century BC, the Tibareni were part of the 19th satrapy of Darius I; later they were subject to the rulers of Lesser Armenia, then to the Pontic king Mithridates VI Eupator, in whose army they fought against the Romans.
