3rd millennium BC
Rimedello culture — a Chalcolithic archaeological culture that existed in Italy during the 3rd millennium BC in the Po Valley.
The name comes from finds in the municipality of Remedello, where a necropolis was discovered with burials mainly from the Copper Age, although some graves can be attributed to later periods — the Bronze and even Iron Ages.
Characteristic of this culture was the production of exceptionally well-worked flint items (daggers, spears, arrowheads), as well as polished stone items, and alloys of copper with arsenic (pseudo-bronze) and silver (weapons, pins, pectorals, bracelets). The decorative elements of many items may have Eastern origins. As a rule, all these items were found as part of grave goods in individual burials.
Ötzi - the Iceman, a Chalcolithic mummy, discovered in 1991 in the Tyrolean Alps. Ötzi belonged to Y-DNA haplogroup G2a (G2a4 (G-L91) or G2a1b2) and his radiocarbon age is approximately 5300 years. Among his equipment was a copper axe similar to finds from the Remedello culture burials.
