1945, June 22. Great Patriotic War
The war of the Soviet Union against Nazi Germany, which attacked it, and ended with the victory of the USSR and the liberation from occupation of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe.
According to declassified data from the USSR State Planning Committee, the losses of the Soviet Union in World War II amount to 41 million 979 thousand. The total population loss of the USSR in 1941–45 is more than 52 million 812 thousand people. Of these, irretrievable losses due to the effects of war factors — more than 19 million military personnel and about 23 million civilians. Also destroyed were 1,710 cities, 70,000 villages and towns, 31,850 factories and plants, 1,135 mines, 65,000 km of railway tracks.
More than 55.5 thousand citizens of Abkhazia took part in the Great Patriotic War. 17,436 died. 1992, August 14. War of Abkhazia and Georgia
Beginning
August 14, 1992, in the midst of the resort season, detachments of the National Guard of Georgia under the command of Tengiz Kitovani, under the pretext of protecting the railway, invaded the territory of Abkhazia.

September 30, 1993 — military victory of the Abkhazian side, leading to today's independence of Abkhazia.
